Additional Information on Private Seminars
CUSTOM TRAINING & PRIVATE SEMINARS
Construction Seminars NW LLC works with the Premier Project
Consulting Group LLC to provide training and coaching for
contractors, designers and owners. Training is conducted by
three key individuals - Mike Pauletto, Phil Martinson and
Roger Lenneberg. The common denominator between Mike, Phil
and Roger is their commitment to effective and inexpensive
ways of working with owners, designers and contractors to
minimize disputes. They believe the most effective way to
achieve this goal is by training and coaching the parties
involved in a project. Dispute Free construction projects
are not projects without problems or conflicts – they
are projects with effective tools to resolve problems and
conflicts.
Each training is setup for 20 to 40 participants and costs
$3,600 for a one-day (8 hours) training in Portland - about
$90 to $180 per person. Other locations have a higher cost.
A facilitator acts as a coach to help resolve conflict and
promote cooperation. The process may require a single session
or multiple sessions over a long period of time. As partnering
and/or dispute resolution facilitators, we are committed to
taking the time and employ the techniques needed to: (1) ensure
that the parties understand the issues in dispute; (2) explore
fully the obstacles to resolution; and (3) exhaust all options
for narrowing the scope of the dispute or reaching a final
agreement. Three specific all-day trainings are available
that are tailored to a company’s or project’s
needs.
1. Facilitation of the Formal Partnering Process
- The most important element of any partnering process or
training is to have top and upper management 100% committed
to the partnering process. Initial Partnering training begins
with an overview of the Partnering process and explanation
of how and why it works. This is followed by a detailed workshop
to collectively define the project goals (including definition
of risks), have all parties commit to a Project Charter, setup
an effective communication system and establish an efficient
conflict resolution process. This is an interactive process
with all key stakeholders present, committed and involved.
Additional follow-up meetings or project monitoring is provided
at an hourly rate of $250.00 per consultant plus expenses.
2. Conflict Resolution of Potential Disputes
– The goal of facilitated dispute resolution is to create
a process and environment which encourages the participants
to communicate and jointly reach an agreement that terminates
the dispute. At a minimum, Conflict Resolution sessions must
include opportunities to learn about the dispute and the various
perspectives of the parties, evaluation of the options, including
alternatives to settlement, and finally, collaborative problem
solving. By initially focusing on the process rather than
resolution, the parties will gain information and skills they
can use to continue working cooperatively, focus future discussion
on the real issues and simplify the process going forward.
Successful Conflict Resolution provides the parties with tools
to resolve the dispute even after the training process is
completed. This leads to innovative approaches to improving
project results.
3. Mediation and Intervention of
Active Disputes - Whether the process is described
as partnering (a team approach to manage project changes before
participants become adversaries in a dispute) or mediation
of a conflict, it requires creativity, imagination and utilization
of all the techniques available for facilitating communication
and understanding the issues preventing collaborative problem
solving. Each situation is unique, and the process must be
crafted to the styles and characteristics of both the dispute
and the parties. The timing of “dispute intervention”
sessions is a critical decision for business people and their
advisers. We encourage early intervention in situations where
the damage accrues over time and/or the parties must continue
working together as the dispute continues. In these situations,
prompt Conflict Resolution procedures will minimize the magnitude
of the problem and the collateral damage which often results
from ongoing disputes. However, it is never too late for collaborative
thinking, and partnering; or pre-litigation mediation can
be used to help restore morale and productivity on a problem
project.
